30 Jun Men’s Health Month: Health Facts & Tips
Men’s Health Month is a national observance celebrated each June to raise awareness about health and wellness for men and focus on encouraging boys, men, and their families to practice and implement healthy living decisions, such as exercising and eating healthy.
The six leading men’s health organizations worldwide launched the International Men’s Health Month in 2002 in hopes of “heightening the awareness of preventable health problems and encouraging early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, on average, men in the United States die five years earlier than women and die at higher rates from the three leading causes of death: heart disease, cancer, and unintentional injuries.
To quote Congressman Bill Richardson, “Recognizing and preventing men’s health problems is not just a man’s issue. Because of its impact on wives, mothers, daughters, and sisters, men’s health is truly a family issue.” And he’s right.
Supervisors, managers, families, and men themselves should take this opportunity to become educated on what can be done to improve their lifestyles. The many free and convenient health services could save a life.
As Men’s Health Month ends, Synergy Comp emphasizes that boys and men should make their health the first priority each day of their lives.
